The Daily Digest Dark Bulls

Nvidia's big week, Canada's trade war, fire in Reno, and a golfer nobody wanted to see win — but did anyway. This is one of those Mondays where every front is moving at once. The most consequential week for markets this summer kicks off today — Nvidia earnings Wednesday, the Federal Reserve in Wyoming on Friday, and new Iran sanctions dropping right now. Meanwhile, the US-Canada trade relationship just blew up. Ninety thousand people are still under evacuation orders in Reno. And Wyndham Clark had one more thing to prove.

📈 Money & Markets ![Money and Markets](https://storage.ghost.io/c/a1/dd/a1ddf2b8-9bac-44ec-a0a7-0db9675b35bd/content/images/2026/08/image12.png) The week that could define the rest of your portfolio year starts right now. Two things are happening simultaneously this week that almost never line up: Nvidia reports quarterly earnings on Wednesday, and the Federal Reserve's new chairman Kevin Warsh takes the podium Friday at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Either one of these events alone would move markets. Together, they amount to a stress test for everything the 2026 stock rally has been built on. Start with Nvidia. The company is guiding to roughly $91 billion in revenue for the quarter — a number that would have been science fiction five years ago. Options markets are pricing in a swing of about 6% in either direction after the report. If you own an S&P 500 index fund, a target-date retirement fund, or just about any diversified ETF, Nvidia is in there. Its performance doesn't just matter to tech investors — it matters to everyone with a 401(k). Then there's Warsh. He took over as Fed Chair in May and has barely spoken in public since. He's walking away from the old forward-guidance playbook — no more hints about what the Fed will do months from now. That's rattled markets because investors have been trained for years to read the Fed's signals like a map. Now the map is gone. His Jackson Hole speech Friday will be watched obsessively for any clue about whether rate cuts are coming this year or not.

"We have the Fed and the Treasury basically working in sort of opposite directions." — Wil Stith, Senior Bond Portfolio Manager, Wilmington Trust

The backdrop makes all of this harder to read. The 30-year Treasury yield hit its highest level in nearly two decades last week. That affects mortgage rates, car loans, and the cost of carrying any debt. Treasury Secretary Bessent tried to calm things down by doubling bond buybacks — it helped for about 48 hours before yields crept back up. Markets opened mixed this morning: S&P 500 down slightly, Nasdaq off 0.55%, while the Dow edged up. Investors are cautious, and they have every reason to be.

The practical takeaway: if you've been thinking about rebalancing, this week will give you clarity you haven't had in months. Don't make big moves before Wednesday night. Wait to hear what Nvidia says, then sit tight for Warsh on Friday. By the time the weekend arrives, the picture will be considerably cleaner.

In 1934, the government executed a legal maneuver that transferred billions in wealth overnight.

Most Americans had no idea it was coming.

A small group who saw it early walked away wealthy.

Everyone else paid for it.

Trump has the same legal authority today. Advisors close to the administration believe he's considering using it. If he does, the transfer happens fast — and the window to be on the right side of it is already closing.

We put together a free report on exactly what this move is, why the timing points to now, and the one step ordinary Americans can take to position themselves before it happens.

It costs nothing. Takes 30 seconds to request.

The people who moved early in 1934 didn't have a warning.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney walked away from trade negotiations with Washington this weekend, saying the United States suddenly changed its demands at the last minute — including a clause that would restrict Canada's ability to make trade deals with other countries. "You're at war when you're attacked," Carney told reporters. The Trump administration disputed that framing entirely, with the US Trade Representative saying the American offer would have given Canada more preferential terms than any other trading partner. Whoever you believe on the details, the practical result is the same: Trump responded by imposing 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods, and Canada announced retaliatory duties set to kick in September 8th. Canada is not some distant trading partner — it's the largest source of US imports, period. Think lumber, oil, steel, car parts, dairy, and a long list of food products. When tariffs go on at those levels, prices don't stay where they are. For anyone who shops, drives, or is trying to buy or renovate a home right now, this is not an abstract geopolitical dispute. Lumber prices were already elevated. Canadian oil flows through pipelines that feed refineries across the Midwest and Northeast. The September 8th date is worth marking on your calendar — that's when the first wave of price effects could start showing up at the register.

"You're at war when you're attacked, and we got attacked." — Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, August 23, 2026

There's a diplomatic off-ramp here, and both sides know it. These situations often get resolved faster than the rhetoric suggests. But right now, no talks are scheduled, both sides are digging in publicly, and a September deadline is approaching. Watch this one closely.

Trump Just Signed the Crypto Order of the Decade

While Biden was quietly planning a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) to track, trace, and control every dollar in your wallet...

Trump just SHUT IT DOWN.

In a fiery executive order, Trump slammed the door on surveillance coins — and opened the gates to decentralized, real-world assets.

So now the question is: if CBDC is dead… what crypto wins?

Bryce Paul — host of the #1 Crypto Podcast (17M+ streams) — says the answer is simple: one tiny coin at the center of a massive blockchain pivot by J.P. Morgan, BlackRock, and Singapore.

🌍 Science & World ![Hawk Fire Reno Nevada](https://storage.ghost.io/c/a1/dd/a1ddf2b8-9bac-44ec-a0a7-0db9675b35bd/content/images/2026/08/image12345.png) Ninety thousand people told to run. The Hawk Fire is still zero percent contained. The Hawk Fire started Saturday in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains just outside Reno, and by Sunday it had torn through 15,000 acres with nothing to stop it. Forty-two thousand residents have been ordered to evacuate. Another 45,000 are on standby, told to be ready to go at any moment. The Reno-Sparks Convention Center was opened as a shelter. Casinos started offering discounted rooms to people with nowhere to sleep. As of this morning, the fire is zero percent contained. The winds are the problem. They're shifting constantly, which is exactly the worst-case scenario for firefighters. The fire jumped over trucks trying to block it. It reached neighborhoods so fast that one man said the blaze wasn't even a concern Saturday morning — and by Sunday his house was in the evacuation zone. Investigators say the fire was human-caused, though there's no evidence it was set intentionally. The Nevada Governor has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard. Northwest Specialty Hospital evacuated all of its patients. Families trying to flee were told they could bring their pets to designated drop-off points — but not into the convention center itself. These are the kinds of details that make a disaster real. This isn't a distant wildfire on the news. It's neighborhoods, people's houses, lives interrupted in the middle of a Sunday.

Wildfires near cities are becoming less of an anomaly and more of a recurring feature of Western life in August. The conditions that produced this fire — dry foothills, shifting winds, a hot summer — aren't going away. If you have family or friends in the Reno area, check on them today. And if you live anywhere in the fire-prone West, having a go-bag and an evacuation plan isn't paranoia. It's just common sense.

You waited for that $2,000 check. It never came.

While politicians patted themselves on the back, millions of seniors on $1,100 a month got absolutely nothing.

But here's what the media *won't* tell you — Trump quietly made a move designed to protect American wealth. No headlines. No prime-time coverage. No credit given.

Just a real opportunity sitting in front of everyday retirees right now.

And just like the check — they could cancel this too.

The difference? This one you can act on today, before it disappears down the same hole as every other promise made to seniors. Wyndham Clark walked into Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis with a five-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round, with Rory McIlroy paired alongside him in the last group. The crowd made no secret of who they were pulling for. By the 11th hole, that five-shot lead was gone, McIlroy had drawn even, and Clark was making what he later called "dumb bogeys." It had all the makings of a collapse. Instead, Clark made three straight birdies over the final three holes to close with an even-par 70 and win the BMW Championship by three shots. It's his third PGA Tour victory this year, including the US Open at Shinnecock Hills in June, where almost the exact same script played out — a big lead, a crowd cheering against him, and a clean win at the end. After Sunday, he said something that stuck: "Darth Vader had more fun." He's earned that kind of confidence. Patrick Cantlay finished second and secured his spot in next week's Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta — the final event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, where the overall winner takes home a $25 million prize. McIlroy, despite the loss, played well enough to remain in contention heading into East Lake. For golf fans, it's shaping up to be a strong finish to the season. The larger story here is Clark himself. He's 32, from Denver, and for most of his career was a solid player who didn't win much. In the last two years he's become one of the best players in the world — not the most popular, clearly, but consistently the one holding the trophy when the dust settles. That's worth paying attention to before next week.

📋 In Brief

Bessent's "Economic D-Day" Arrives Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is holding a press conference today to unveil what he's called the greatest coordinated economic isolation campaign in history against Iran — including severe banking sanctions and penalties for any country that helps Tehran skirt them. Oil markets are nervous. Iran has already warned that threatening its oil exports will be treated as an act of war. Watch Brent crude prices this afternoon.

TikTok Pays $400 Million, Admits Nothing The Justice Department announced Friday it settled its 2024 children's privacy lawsuit against TikTok for $400 million. The company admits no wrongdoing. For context: TikTok generated an estimated $20 billion in revenue last year. The fine amounts to about two percent of annual revenue — a cost of doing business, not a deterrent.

Iran-Linked Hackers Shut Down a British Power Plant A cyberattack believed to be connected to the Iranian regime knocked a small UK energy facility offline for four days last week. British power companies have been put on alert. The location of the plant hasn't been disclosed. It's a reminder that the US-Iran conflict is being fought on more fronts than just the Strait of Hormuz.
