The Pentagon is sending a third aircraft carrier group to the Middle East — USS Theodore Roosevelt, 10,000 troops, arriving by late November. WSJ says the president plans to resume strikes on Iran after the midterms. Oil jumped 4.6% on the news. Nike fell to a 12-year low. And the September jobs report is out this morning.

Friday. The diplomatic week that opened with a counteroffer to Iran and closed with a delegation expulsion now has a military coda: a third carrier group heading to the Gulf on a timeline that lands after the November 3 elections. Brent jumped on the news before pulling back. The week ends with a jobs report, a Nike collapse, and a global bond selloff that is pushing mortgage rates to multi-decade highs. Let's close the week.

The Pentagon is sending a third aircraft carrier group to the Middle East — and according to the Wall Street Journal, the deployment is timed around a plan to resume strikes on Iran after the November 3 midterms.

October 2, 2026 · War / Defense

The USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group departed San Diego Sunday, followed by the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island carrying the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The combined force — roughly 10,000 sailors and Marines — is expected to arrive in the region by late November. If the USS George Washington, already present, remains on station, it would be the first time since April that three U.S. carrier strike groups have operated simultaneously in the Middle East. The total naval and Marine force in the region would then exceed 20,000 personnel across three strike groups.

The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous U.S. officials, reported that the deployment is connected to administration planning to resume strikes on Iranian territory after the midterm elections on November 3\. The officials said the president has been weighing options for a second phase of military action that would go beyond the initial strikes of February and March, and that the carrier group's arrival timeline — late November — was deliberately set to coincide with the post-election window. The administration has not confirmed any post-election strike planning. A Pentagon spokesman said the deployment was "consistent with our commitment to regional stability and force protection."

In 1973, a radical White House policy triggered a historic gold rush. A rumored new Executive Order is about to do it again.

When the government severed the dollar's tie to gold in the 1970s, everyday Americans watched their purchasing power collapse. But a small group of prepared investors made generational wealth as gold prices skyrocketed.

Fast forward to today. With Jerome Powell out and an alleged "Financial Executive Order" being prepared to bypass the Fed and pump the market, the stage is set for an even bigger dollar shock. Top analysts warn inflation will explode.

But here is the good news: you don't need to hoard expensive physical bullion to shield yourself. There is a little-known market loophole that essentially lets you capitalize on this crisis like you are **"buying gold at 1973 prices"** right before the massive surge.

[Click here to discover the "1973 Gold Loophole" and bulletproof your savings before the order is signed](https://db.clkrova.com/69d5a087c66fc6e4a9303cc5?email=%%{uuid}%%&domain=636DBG&type=BLOG&product=SSKN620&ref=dark-bulls.ghost.io)

Oil markets reacted immediately to the carrier group news. Brent crude jumped 4.6% to $102.55 Thursday before pulling back to around $99-100 Friday morning as the initial spike faded. The move reinforced the pattern that has defined energy markets since February: every military escalation signal sends crude higher; every diplomatic signal sends it lower. A third carrier group arriving in late November is not a diplomatic signal. WTI was trading near $92 Friday morning ahead of the jobs report. For the quarter, oil rose approximately 42% — the largest quarterly gain since the early months of the COVID recovery.

The deployment also reframes the diplomatic track. Washington transmitted a counteroffer to Tehran through Qatari mediators Wednesday, proposing a seven-day confidence-building period as a bridge back to the June memorandum. Secretary Rubio then expelled Iran's UN delegation from the country. Now a carrier group is en route on a post-election timeline. The combination — counteroffer, expulsion, reinforcement — suggests the administration is pursuing a dual-track strategy: keep diplomacy alive as a midterm narrative while positioning military assets for a post-election escalation if talks fail. Tehran will read the carrier deployment the same way.

September jobs report out this morning — consensus 84-90K new jobs, unemployment steady at 4.1%

Data drops at 8:30 ET. After August's strong 162K print and Wednesday's soft PCE inflation surprise, the Fed's November rate decision calculus is in flux. A weak jobs number would reduce pressure to hike again; a strong number would reignite rate fears. ADP showed +90K private sector jobs Thursday. Markets are up modestly ahead of the print — futures adding 0.5% on S&P and Dow, 0.7% on Nasdaq.

Bessent pressures Europe on diesel — China stopped fuel exports — U.S. weighing diesel export ban

Treasury Secretary Bessent publicly called on European partners to accelerate diesel releases from reserves. Simultaneously, Chinese refineries halted October fuel exports with no official explanation — one week after the president asked Xi for oil market support at the White House summit. Analysts warn a U.S. diesel export ban would tighten global supply and potentially raise domestic prices. No decision yet. Brent ended the quarter up 42% from pre-war levels near $72.

Trump told TIME he regrets appointing Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett — "they voted against me too often"

In a TIME magazine cover interview titled "Trump's Way," the president said he regrets all three of his first-term Supreme Court appointments — the justices who form the core of the current 6-3 conservative majority. The comment raises questions about what he expects from judicial appointments and what the second term's judicial legacy will look like with no further vacancies currently anticipated.

Nike fell to a 12-year low after earnings — China revenue down 26%, full-year guidance well below expectations

EPS beat at $0.48 vs $0.44 expected, but revenue missed at $11.21B (-4% YoY). China collapsed 26%. North America grew just 2%. Full-year guidance of $1.15-1.35 EPS came in below all analyst estimates. Shares fell \~6% after hours to $32.96 — below last year's low. Nike announced a restructuring plan called "Pace." As the world's largest athletic brand, Nike's China weakness is a direct read on global consumer demand in the world's second-largest economy.

Accenture surged 16% on earnings — the strongest signal yet that corporate AI spending is accelerating

Accenture is one of the world's largest IT consulting firms and its earnings are the most reliable leading indicator of corporate technology budgets. A 16% single-session gain on strong AI consulting demand signals that enterprise spending on AI implementation is accelerating — not slowing — despite higher interest rates and energy costs. This is a direct counter-signal to the semiconductor index's 11% quarterly decline.

Global bond selloff deepened — 30-year Treasury yield near 24-year highs, mortgage rates follow

European government bonds sold off sharply Thursday as U.S. 30-year yields held near 5.56% — levels not seen since 2002\. The driver is not growth optimism but a combination of inflation persistence, deficit spending, and massive Treasury issuance to fund AI infrastructure debt. For households: the 30-year mortgage rate is now tracking above 7.8% at most major lenders, the highest since 2000\. Car loan rates and credit card APRs are at multi-decade highs.
